Carter Cogburn Wyatt

He got here about 7:10 am on November 7th. He weighted 8 lb 3.6 oz at birth and is 20.75 inches long. Carter is doing fine. Cilla is doing ok considering she had to work pretty hard to have a beautiful baby boy. I’ll be posting the whole story and many more pictures here when I get a little more time.

Baby update (Monday, 8:00 PM)

Cilla had her scheduled appointment with her Doctot this afternoon. Turns out she's dilated four centimeters and fully effaced (if you wanted too much information). He was surprised she wasn't already in labor. So since labor is imminent, we've scheduled an inducement of labor for Wednesday morning.

Cilla and I are starting to think she's not going to make it to Wednesday morning, so we're all packed and ready to go to the hospital.

We appreciate all the prayers we've gotten so far and we would love it if you could continue. Specifically:

  • Please pray for Carter's health (he looks good so far).
  • Please pray for Cilla health (she feels fine).
  • Please pray that Cilla gets her epidural. Since she's already dilated, she might miss her 'window of opportunity.' Cilla's biggest fear is not having an epidural, so she's concerned about this.
  • Please pray that Will doesn't worry too much. The hardest thing for me not to do is worry (I'm good at it).
  • Please pray that anyone traveling to Abilene to be with us has a safe trip.

I may be able to update the website a few more times, but most likely the next post I'll make is announcing our baby boy.

Speak into my good ear…

It is funny how quickly a woman who is about nine months pregnant can get service in an Emergency Room. Cilla and I made out first trip to the Emergency Room this weekend, but the trip had nothing to do with Carter or pregnancy.

Cilla's right ear has been hurting for a week or so. We chalked it up to allergies, which seem to affect almost everybody in West Texas this time of year. Cilla thought of calling her family doctor on Friday, but decided to tough it out until Monday when she sees her obstetrician again. Unfortunately, by Friday night her ear hurt badly enough that she had trouble sleeping Same situation Saturday night.

We decided to go to the walk-in clinic on Sunday afternoon. However, they wouldn't see Cilla because of her advanced pregnancy. So, the only other option on a Sunday afternoon is the Emergency Room.

Cilla had a hard time convincing the triage nurse that we weren't at the hospital for anything baby related. They are very careful with pregnancy, as they should be.

I wish our wait had been a 'long story short', but it wasn't. I did get to watch most of the Cowboy game in the waiting room of the ER. However, our visit to the ER ended better than the Cowboy's visit to Washington (talk about a redemptive moment for the Redskins' field-goal kicker). Cilla was presribed some baby-safe antibiotics for otitis externa (never stick anything in your ear but your elbow). There is an old-wives tale that messing with your ear can induce labor, but no such luck yesterday.

We're hoping Cilla feels better before Carter shows up, which could be any day now.

p.s. Sorry, small-group. We promise if we miss small-group again between now and the delivery we'll call. Thanks for checking up on us.

One of these things is not like the other…

Can you spot the difference in the two pictures?

This tree had been dying since we moved in five years ago. Within the last month or so it had stated to lean. The lean might not have bothered me if it hadn't been leaning towards the house and power-lines. So, we had the tree cut down. Lots of big, noisy, powerful machinery. Wyatt and Jake would have been impressed.

36 weeks and counting…

Ok, the countdown continues! I had my 36 week check up today. For some reason he doesn't check your cervix on this particular week, but I told him that I was still having contractions. He said he thinks I'm still dilating and for sure won't make it until the 28th. He says the baby is fine and I'm doing fine, so his plan is to check me every Monday from here on out and if we make it to 38 weeks, he will give us the option to induce!

I think we are both definitely ready for our little guy to be here!

A big CONGRATS to our friends Julia and Mason Stewart on the birth of their sweet little boy, Tristan. We've been and will continue to pray for this family.
